Scene 1 – MONOLOGUE, NIGHT – INT. ABANDONED SUBWAY STATION

Dark. Dripping. Faint buzz of neon somewhere in the distance. A figure stands alone under flickering light. This is MICHAEL VANN, 38, former financial analyst turned underground journalist. He speaks directly to camera / audience.

MICHAEL (V.O.):

They told us we were free.
Free to buy, to sell, to starve, to drown.
They sold us liberty wrapped in logos. Told us to chase the dream while they sold the land beneath our feet.
In the old regimes, the boot is visible. You smell the leather before it breaks your ribs.
Here?
It smiles at you from a commercial. It loans you your own loaned outsourced rope — at interest.

He looks up. A lump forms in his throat. Silence.
